Folate Binding Protein
Folate Binding Protein isolated from bovine milk, exhibits a strong affinity for human folic acid, making it useful in the development of folic acid serum assays. Folic acid, also known as folate or vitamin B9, is involved in the production of DNA and helps form red blood cells. Low levels of serum folate are associated with anemia, specifically, with megaloblastic anemia, which is caused by the body's inadequate production of red blood cells. Serum folate tests are often performed in conjunction with tests for vitamin B12, as deficiencies of both molecules are independently associated with megaloblastic anemia. In addition, excessive alcohol consumption can depress levels of serum folate.
Scripps Laboratories offers high purity Folate Binding Protein for research or assay development.
