α1 Antichymotrypsin

α1 Antichymotrypsin (ACT) is serine protease inhibitor produced primarily in the liver. It is also an acute phase protein that is upregulated during an inflammatory response. In particular, increased expression of ACT is found in many inflammatory conditions, including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and burn injuries. It is also a component of the amyloid deposits found in Alzheimer's disease. In addition, ACT is thought to play a role in the pathology of patients with chronic heart failure.
